Navantia and L&T Join Forces for Indian Navy's P75 (I) Submarine Programme

 Current Affairs 11 July 2023

Spanish Navantia, Larsen & Toubro, and the Indian Navy have signed a pact to jointly bid for the prestigious Project-75 (India) submarine program at the Spanish Embassy in New Delhi.

The agreement aims to submit a techno-commercial bid for the Indian Navy's P75(I) submarine program, which is India's largest defense acquisition project.

The project requires the Indian bidder to collaborate with a foreign collaborator and deliver six conventional submarines equipped with Air-Independent Propulsion. Navantia will design P75(I) submarines based on its S80 class of submarines, which were launched in 2021 and are undergoing sea trials before being delivered to the Spanish Navy by the end of 2023.

The project aims to build indigenous capabilities in the Indian Navy and enhance the industrial/manufacturing sector, particularly small, medium industries involved in submarine spares and equipment manufacturing.
